Small Bowel Obstruction | Jason Parente PA-C | Boston, MA

June 21, 2019 in Small Bowel Obstruction
ezgif-SBOparente.gif

An middle-aged M presented with abdominal 'fullness', nausea and emesis x 2 days. Surgical history of Roux en Y a couple years back. Abdomen was distended, but non-peritoneal.

POCUS Abdominal shows a dilated loop of bowel with back and forth peristalsis strongly suggesting an obstruction distal to this point.

SONO Pearls: The number to remember for SBO is a diameter > 2.5 cm. Nothing is black and white, but you can see from the cm hash marks on the right of the screen that this loop measures > 5cm in diameter.
